(Anonymous) 2016-01-07 01:42 am (UTC)(link)The vibe that I get is a guy who has serious, serious issues with self-esteem and self-image, and this is an expression of that. Where he conceptualizes himself as harmful and toxic on a basic, fundamental level. Which isn't really a nice guy thing. A nice guy thinks that he's entitled to pleasant interactions on account of he's so nice and polite. In contrast, this guy is worried that people are going to realize his basic awfulness and punish him for it.
Now the particular expression of it is definitely a gendered thing, but I just don't see it as a nice guy thing.
