Well obviously that's the root, but today, "classy" and "high class" do have two different meanings. Someone can be high class without being classy, or classy without being high class. High class refers to socioeconomic status (esp. by birth, not necessarily someone who suddenly made loads of money) and classy is a style/attitude/personality trait.
