Missed my own thread damnit.

I loved Rey and Po(e?). Finn was annoying but only in that Luke from 4, 5 and 6 way so I could see potential.

Why I didn't like it is because they played it so safe: 95% of the movie was remixed scenes and sets from A New Hope and occasionally Empire. The only new stuff was tediously, painfully JJ Abrhams - so close in on the new characters that it did nothing to build the new parts of the Universe. There were some amazing opportunities there.

Then there was the reliance on both tired old and new stereotypes. The greatest evil they could conceive of was a radicalsed kid with Daddy issues? Not saying that that isn't a problem today but seriously? Oh and of course they cast him as someone who Hollywood evil. Not to mention Voldemort and the in-your-face-Nazis-Nazis-alert-alert First Order.

I dunno. I know they needed to forge a strong connection with 4, 5 and 6 to try and escape the Phantom Menace curse. Maybe the next film will surprise me.
