Holy ravioli, Batman. I didn't know this was a thing. Let me know how this works out for you, OP. I love tea.

I thought fandom tea blends sounded like a cute idea in theory, but when I looked at what people came up with... eh. Most of them don't sound like a particularly good match for the character, or if they do sound like a good match, they don't sound like a nice cup of tea.

The concept of fandom tea is neat, but so many of the custom blends on Adagio mix green, white, black, and rooibos willy-nilly. They have different brewing requirements, dammit! But I've seen a few well-thought-out looking blends with awesome labels, so it can be done.

Yeah. Some of them look like they were made by people who don't really drink tea, they're just in it for the fandom aspect.

The best "fandom" tea I've had is the Zombie tea. That one is good. I love thinking of tea blends, but I've never made fandom tea. Oh my god, I should make wrestling tea.

This comment reminds me of this:

I don't know that particular fandom, but that's the font & wording used on the Adagio website - look in Blends. People have been quietly devising fannish blends for years, but recently they started encouraging it, which I thought was very clever of them.

I have tried the Don QuixoTea and it is delicious.

Nothing brings out my badly repressed tea purist quicker than amateur blends.

If I was a tea drinker I would probably want some fandom tea.

Not because I think the tea would be a stunning representation of the character (don't know how you would decide that, in most cases, lol), but if a particular blend sounded tasty I'd give it a shot.

I feel the same about fandom makeup/nail polish/etc. I own some nail polish from fandom collections (Disney, Hunger Games, James Bond), but I didn't buy it because of that connection, I just bought it because it was pretty.

Aw, biba. I hope they turn out to be tasty!

We've had a secret about these kinds of blends a long while back, but I still think they're fun. I buy them if I like the fandom and it sounds tasty, but I tend toward sweet stuff. I imagine that kind is harder to mess up (or is considered tea at all).

Sweet or flavored teas tend to appeal more to a wide audience, but a lot of them don't actually contain any tea leaves because they're hibiscus based. I have to confess... when people say they're a tea drinker and what they really mean is that they like Celestial Seasonings lemon zinger, I think, "... oh. So not really a tea drinker, then."

Adagio deals in all loose-leaf, as far as I know--if it doesn't, the fandom blends do. That said, the majority of the loose-leaf blends I've purchased from Adagio and other places are based on rooiboos since I try to avoid caffeine, and it seems to be discounted as "not tea" in a similar way.

I had no idea about most store-bought ones being hibiscus-based, though! Very interesting.

nayrt

Well, technically it's not tea, because tea is what's made from the leaves of the Camellia sinensis plant. "Teas" based on rooibos or hibiscus are tisanes.

That makes more sense! I didn't have the time to search about the topic, so I appreciate the technical explanation.
