I think the movie series was really good, but that last movie just lost steam I guess due to the death of one of the main actors?

Are people really saying that? His death changed two scenes, one in each of the last two movies. Everything else had already been filmed when Hoffman died.

No one is saying that, I was just speculating. I don't know the reason for the lack of interest. The Hunger Games fandom seems dead as hell. I mean, when the second one came out I at least saw Finnick gif sets come across my dash, but it's been nothing for the last two films. Which is a shame because, like I said, I think the films are really good.

I agree.

I was just thinking earlier this week that for as much as The Hunger Games has been touted as this cycle's Harry Potter/Twilight phenomenon, I don't envision THG having the lasting fandom power that Harry Potter continues to have to this day. (I'd say even interest in Twilight has died down recently. A friend expressed the same sentiment this afternoon.)

The movies are really good (I wasn't psyched about the latest one, but I did go see it.)

I thought their relationship was really great in the movie, too. Finnick demonstrated a lot of patience and care for Peeta, so I totally get that takeaway. I was thinking about seeking the fic while I was watching it, tbh.

It's funny, because in the beginning I was open to so many ship, but by the end I really didn't ship anyone (except maybe I could get on board with Effie/Haymitch, which was improvised from what I understand, but it sort of works for me).

I'm cool with Effie/Haymitch. I wonder if they'd get paired if the author decided to do a Haymitch-centric book (sequels seem an inevitability).

I'd honestly prefer a prequel then. Let them have their sort-of happy ending, but I dunno, go back to the origin of the games or something.

Same here. The ending was pretty sentimental but it was where I'd like to leave them as a reader. A prequel would be more interesting but I still wonder.

Can I offer you the fanfic version of this? Not the actual origin of the games, but Haymitch's backstory, time in the Arena, and time as a mentor (up through and past the end of the series proper), with Haymitch/Effie, and seriously impressive in its ability to match canon's tone: https://archiveofourown.org/series/61184

Oh man I would LOVE some prequels and extra world-building. I've always wanted some more background on how the whole mess got started.

Haven't seen it, but it isn't because I don't care, it's just because I'm slow getting around to things.

... Never saw part one either.

Tbh this is one of the few things I didn't have a lot of enthusiastic shipping thoughts about. I loved Katniss, I thought Peeta was cute, I liked a lot of the supporting characters too, but it wasn't that important to me.
