At least you aren't one of those contrarians saying that the prequels are good and TFA shit.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-08 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Some people legitimately believe that.

Like me.

I love the prequels but was hugely disappointed in TFA. But to each their own.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-08 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
NO! Your opinion is wrong and contrary. :[

(Anonymous) 2016-01-09 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
I know, I was referring to people who have been shitting on the prequels for years and as soon as they saw that TFA was well received by the audience they changed their tune to 'the prequels are good, TFA is terrible'.

I've seen this happen in some forums.

I loved the prequels because the first one came out when I was like ten. Phantom Menace was a great movie for a ten-year-old.

Looking back though, at least that one doesn't hold up much. The third one was the best of the lot, but I do feel that TFA has more heart in it.

10 year olds must LOVE senate meetings and trade negotiations

(Anonymous) 2016-01-09 02:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Wasn't TPM ~70% podracing, though? (At least, that's how it felt to me my first and only time watching it.)

(Anonymous) 2016-01-09 12:08 am (UTC)(link)
RotS was better than TFA.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-09 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
I would say I agree except the abomination that was Padme Amidala ruined RotS for me completely. In The Phantom Menace, she was strong and awesome and they progressively ruined her until she was a sniveling, weak-willed, caricature of a wifey. So disappointed.

This is an opinion I agree with. And one I have spent an awful lot of time defending for the past two weeks.

Seirously?

I agree it could have one with a little fewer winks to the original, but story-wise I feel it's far better than any of the prequels.

(several days late but) It's literally A New Hope. "Winks to the original" is a massive understatement XD

I do feel that TFA was a better and more enjoyable film, but same. All the remakes and reboots these days stay somewhere safe by retreading familiar, well-liked things and don't bother taking the risk of doing something new. Risks sometimes fail, but are refreshing nonetheless.

You're allowed your opinion.

Personally, I adored the prequels quite a bit when they first came out, but I didn't rewatch them as much as the OT. (Well, okay, I rewatched TPM quite a few times because I had a thing for Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan. And, okay, Maul too.)

Hadn't rewatched them in quite a few years before this last time, and I didn't get the same enjoyment out of them. It was an almost completely different experience.

But then again I found TFA to be absolutely delightful and fun, and even liked it better than ROTJ. I didn't mind that the plot was recycled because the cast was lovable and I genuinely enjoyed the execution. Maybe they “played it safe", but all the same I thought it was a damn good movie.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-09 01:54 am (UTC)(link)
I'd rather have TFA than racist caricatures making literal shit jokes and endless boring space politics.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-09 02:17 am (UTC)(link)
This. I hate how so many prequel-stans seem to think that people who complain about the politics are just ignorant plebes who can't appreciate drama. Having political drama was not the problem. Having political drama that was fucking incomprehensible, drama which was only made possible by the involved parties being either dickbags or idiots or dickbag idiots, is the problem.

And yeah, love how everyone conveniently forgets the racism when defending the prequels.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-09 06:16 am (UTC)(link)
Well, if someone understands the politics of the prequels and another person calls it "incomprehensible," the natural conclusion is that they didn't get it.

Also, I'm sorry, but I'd be more irked by the racism if Lucas hadn't included so many characters of color. But we have black, Latino, Maori, Indian actors and actresses all appear in pretty badass roles.

The idea that drama can't be caused because people are being dickbags or idiots is ridiculous if you look at history. Christ, reading about WWI and it's basically idiot imperialist dickbags having a go at each other. The difference is, because it's reality, it doesn't have to make a shred of sense.

And, personally, I'd vote for Jar Jar "dellow fellagates" Binks over Todd "If it's a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down" Akin. Thank you very much.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-09 07:15 am (UTC)(link)
They may not have recycled the plot completely, but they did recycle a lot of stuff from the other movies. As I was watching the movie, I had this sense of deja vu half the time.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-09 03:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I agree. I feel like TFA is objectively the better movie, but it's painfully unoriginal. At least the prequels tried some new stuff - in terms of worldbuilding and characters - and I appreciated that a lot. TFA was entertaining, but utterly forgettable.
