Why is that this argument always gets trotted out when someone criticizes a type of behavior.

"You can just ignore it"

Yeah sure. That's not a reason people can't comment on annoying , and obnoxious behavior. People are allowed to criticize it and if you're response is always

"you can ignore it" or "lol you're taking this too seriously" than it looks like you're really defensive.

Nope. Look at what that comment is responding to. It's not a response that says you can't comment on this subject, it's a response to a comment that claims these topics can't be avoided, which is absurd.
