Honestly, with where you live, I'd go to your local liquor store and ask for a local recommendation. Oregon and Washington have so many vineyards and wineries that you might find something really nice for them.

I have a wine store near me that I'll go in and tell them the occasion, what I saw the people drinking before, and my budget and they'll pull me something off the shelf to fit what I want. I've never been disappointed that way.

Ooh, I didn't think of that! When I think of good wine, I think California/France lol. That's what The Parent Trap taught me at least. |D

A friend's parents are SUPER in to wine. As in they drink a bottle every night and know what wines to order at restaurants, belong to several wine of the month of clubs, etc.

They've gone out to Portland twice to go vineyard/winery tours and I think the last time they went, they came back with 7 cases of wine. So you have plenty of options to choose from and it might seem a little bit more special coming from where you live.
