The problem is that a large percentage of fandom is trying to create an environment that does nothing but reinforce that perception.

Current fandom? Not so much.

And some years ago, when it was like that, fandom was more willing to not assume the worst of people.

As a result, exploring things in a fictional context was considered a good thing to do, without losing the awareness than in RL some of those elements are something to avoid.

That doesn't reinforce any perception. If anything, that invites people to think more than the "this is wrong and shouldn't be written" blanket.

Current fandom? Not so much.

Not sure what fandoms you're in, but my current fandom is HUGE and this topic has been a massive issue in it for the last couple of years. And in my fandom, a large percentage of fandom has been trying to create an environment that does nothing but reinforce the perception that these sorts of narratives are hot.

Not to mention, have you looked around? Every month of two this topic comes up on F!S and the one-sidedness of the resulting discussing is mind-boggling. You think I posted my comment here without knowing what I was getting into? Please! I knew the instant I saw the secret what kind of deliberately misinterpretive, over-reactive attacks the secret poster would get, and I knew I'd get them too if I said anything that didn't fall right in line with those attacks.

Do you think F!S is an extremely inaccurate representation of fandom attitudes?
