You gotta love how meaning changes depending on social group and generation.

Here's one that makes me laugh. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x5JEJiiSZCM

Thanks for the video! Hadn't seen that one but I recall that being the same word JKR got mocked for putting in some of her books. XD

Now I'm trying to remember where the scene comes from, with two characters from different times (probably Dr Who, then)... one of them (regency-era ish maybe?) keeps going on about "having a gay time" at someone's "coming out party" etc, a big speech chock-full of phrases that mean something entirely different to the modern-day character.

I've never heard of that phrase before, and when I first read it in this secret, before reading the secret itself, I definitely thought of ABO. Which I don't even read.

Fandom is ruining me...

If it makes you feel any better, I once had to go to a funeral for a (wonderful!!!) man whose name was Dick. Imagine sitting with your cousins trying to mourn and people keep saying things like "all of us were touched by Dick..."

I feel the same with 'tie the knot', in the marriage sense. "Oh, they tied the knot!" will now never not make me think "they participated in ABO sexual relations?! but this is real life???" before I remember the actual meaning.
