I didn't ship it, but I totally get you. This was a really unique sort of human/pokemon relationship that wasn't done this way elsewhere in the franchise and could definitely bring up ideas like that in a non-cracky way. Theoretically, I think the most interesting Pokemon of all, speculation-wise, is actually Meowth, but he's so unshakably a comic-relief character that it's hard to discuss this kind of stuff w/ regards to him.

(Also this is my favorite of all the Pokemon movies! I love that dashing angsty doggie.)

Well there have been instances in Pokemon canon where it was mentioned that a long time ago, 'there was no difference between Pokemon and humans', and one of the games presents a The Frog Prince-like story as part of history in one of those shelves you can investigate to read the books, so it is there. I wouldn't bank on anything like it being presented explicitly in the anime or manga since this is supposed to be a series for kids and bestiality isn't seen as appropriate for that kind of audience, but it's not a stretch to imagine a relationship like that as part of Pokemon lore. There's a Game Theory/Jwittz collab video about this if you're into watching videos like that too.

I didn't get that vibe from this movie, but it's canon that Lucario form very empathetic bonds with their trainers, so I can see what you're getting at, OP. The fanfiction probably exists too. I'd definitely bet on the fanart existing, if that one time I made the mistake of googling Lucario is anything to go by.

Well, Meowth once fell in love with a human girl in canon. Like, explicitly romantic love too, and only partly played for laughs. Obviously sex etc wasn't mentioned or implied, but still -- who says that gay human/pokemon romantic love is inherently more sexual than het human/pokemon romantic love? And Lucario definitely has the same level of sentience as Meowth.

So I hardly think this idea is anything inappropriate to Pokemon, even if it'll never happen in canon because parents still think gays aren't for children.

To say nothing of Meowth's unrequited crush on Giovanni.

When I was a kid, before I had watched the Johto seasons, my friend and I watched the third movie and my friend told me that Chikorita had a crush on Ash. I never shipped it or anything, but ever since it's been hard to get that interpretation of Chikorita's behaviour out of my mind.
I'm not sure they would go there at this point in the franchise. They sort of did in the past - in the episode A Problem With Paras, Meowth develops a crush on a human woman. I think it would be too weird if it was a human with feelings for a pokemon though.

Which was that movie? (I cannot for the life of me remember which movie number goes with which movie title/plot)

The Entei/Unown one.

I haven't reviewed forever, but in the Diamond/Pearl games, wasn't there a book that mentioned a time where humans and Pokémon married each other, and, really, they weren't even distinguished between?

(Anonymous) 2016-01-11 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
That does sound familiar. With that being the case, I'd like to know what changed and why for the distinction between humans and pokemon to have become so pronounced in the modern day.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-12 08:13 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, and then in the translation it got changed to "humans and Pokemon once ate at the same table" or something. You know it's scandalous when they have to change it!

...I really don't think they'd ever go there, no.
