May I remind you that Amy/Eleven isn't canon and never happened?

Yes, this. There was some flirting because Amy is a flirt and she might have had a bit of a crush in the beginning. But she was never in love with him. She always loved Rory.

See, I never got that from the show. I don't know if it was the actress or the writing, but it always felt to me like they were just saying that without any conviction or, like, emotional evidence. They spent a lot of time showing how much the Doctor meant to Amy and a little time just Saying how much Rory meant.

Hmmmm. See I always saw that as her just taking Rory for granted until the moments where it mattered, where it looked like she might lose Rory or where she had to choose. Then in those moments she finally realized the depths of her feelings and chose Rory.

AYRT

Oh, I know--doesn't make the canon relationship between them any less creepy, for my money. And when we're talking about notps, on the fandom end of things, Amy/Eleven goes to the top of my list based on the dynamics in the canon relationship (her being obsessed with him from a young age; all the memory fuckery/him not telling her she's pregnant/etc).

We'll have to agree to disagree, because creepy is the last world I would use to describe their relationships. Amy/Eleven as a ship? Sure, but not their adorable canon relationship in the show. I'll admit that I'm kind of shocked here reading your comment, it's like we watched a completely different story. I mean, it's not like Amy's life revolved around the doctor like some other companions', Amy’s childhood was shaped by the Doctor but she ultimately establishes a real life and moves on.

I can see what you mean, but I always got the sense that the show was going out of its way to make her real life seem empty/meaningless/not quite real. It's been a long time since I watched the show, but I seem to recall a LOT of episodes where Amy's real life got undermined in big ways. But that might have just been my reading?

Compare to Rose (had a kinda shitty life, met the Doctor, fell in love, got separated from him and started her own organization doing Space Stuff [what was the s4 finale I forget]); Martha (had a gr8 life, met the Doctor, had a good time, went back to gr9 life); Donna (adventures with Doctor, then got her mind erased, poor Donna D:)--none of their lives revolved around the doctor the way Amy's does.
