I just write happy gay couples in any an all AUs I write, idgaf about "accuracy" when it comes to shitty homophobia ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I kinda agree with this point, but just so far as to say you can be historically accurate AND have gay couples end up happy, so long as you realize what's "happy" for them in the time period might not be happy in the present-day. Like, is it possible to keep a relationship under covers for ever and still have it be happy? Yes. Is it possible to have a happy relationship and never get married, start a family, or even officially live together? Still yes. Stigmatized couples have had happy endings! It's not ahistorical to write happy gay people!

This. It's possible to write about a happy gay couple in a historical setting while still maintaining a decent level of historical accuracy. But if you're going to discount the historical setting entirely, why bother writing it at all?

Good for you. Just as long as you understand that this is more about self-indulgent writing (much like author self insert fics) and doesn't really do anything to improve conditions for real LBGT people whatsoever.
