Re: Washington DC
(Anonymous) 2016-01-11 06:55 am (UTC)(link)If you like hiking, I would also recommend checking out Theodore Roosevelt Island. It's just a short walk from the Rosslyn Metro station and it's got a bunch of nice hiking trails as well as a memorial to Roosevelt himself. Actually, if you have time, I would say you should Metro out to Rosslyn and then walk across Key Bridge into Georgetown-- you'll get a lovely view of the Kennedy Center, the Watergate and the Washington Monument on the way across. Plus Georgetown is a lot of fun to walk around and explore! The Exorcist stairs are also right there across the bridge, so you can stop and climb those too.
Let's see, what else... the Hirshhorn Sculpture Garden is outside (that's on the Mall), and the Constitution Gardens (also on the Mall) are outside too. You can also walk around the Tidal Basin to get to the Jefferson and FDR memorials. The Vietnam Veterans Memorial is definitely worth a visit; it's also right there on the Mall. There's also the Botanic Gardens, but I haven't been there in years so I don't really remember them all that well.
I've lived in DC for my entire life, so if you'd like I could PM you from my actual journal!
