Whatever movie, no matter the genre, unless it is made for six year olds, I automatically assume that dogs and little old people are doomed.

Same.

Actually, even if it is made for six year olds. Charlotte's Web.

Point taken! Actually now that I think about it my first exposure to the idea of 'death' was a book called 'A Taste of Blackberries' which was clearly written with young children in mind, and I myself was only 7 or 8.

And parents. I made the mistake of seeing a movie where three characters' mother's died three months after almost losing mine (and at that point things were still in a scary place). I'll say the movie below.

SPOILER anon from above

Into the Woods. I wanted to run out of the theater.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-12 12:01 am (UTC)(link)
I feel the same.

Tbh seeing sweet old people die in a movie hurts me more than seeing a pet die.

[personal profile] solticisekf 2016-01-12 01:45 pm (UTC)(link)
That's ok cause, you know, people > pets. :)

Is there one for cats? I don't really care if the dogs die, because it's always taken as a serious event, but for some reason, cat deaths can be played off as a morbid joke which I loath.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-12 12:15 am (UTC)(link)
Me too! I feel like it's that idea that cats are mean anyway. My cat is an absolute sweetheart.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-12 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
I hate this stereotype so much, it's not even funny. If cats are "always mean to you", it's probably you who sucks around cats. My cats are ridiculously friendly and affectionate. I don't think dogs ever get such an unfair reputation, except maybe a few specific breeds like pitbulls and chihuahuas.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-12 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I know so many friendly, affectionate cats. It's crazy. There's a really skittish stray around here who ran away from everyone, but now he follows me around and gets under my feet. My neighbors have two cats and one of them always runs over to me if she's out and the other follows me around and meows like crazy if I haven't noticed him. I used to have one who would run to the door like a dog if someone was there, even a complete stranger.

I don't get the stereotype that cats are all aloof and don't like attention. Sure, some are. But they all have different personalities.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-12 02:52 am (UTC)(link)
Agreed. Anyone who says that about cats clearly hasn't spent time around mine or those of people I know :p. And the one my family owns is one that was left behind by her owners and was all nervous initially upon coming into our place. But you sure wouldn't know that by the way she acts around us :).

And one of my sister's cats gets very jealous if they dare pay attention to their other cats :p. She's especially attached to my brother-in-law and LOVES it when he gives her attention.

That website does include cats, and I think other pets?

Doesthedogdie also covers cats. It's pretty much animal violence in general. One movie on there I stumbled across had a warning for a hamster.

Fucking Cloudburst.
bur: Gor! It's Anakin with a baby impaled on his lightsaber!! The horror, the horror. (GOR!)

I hate seeing old people be sad. I like watching war documentaries, and there'll always, without fail, be at least one sweet-looking little old man whose face just crumples while he's talking. RIPPING MY HEART OUT. But at least I'm expecting it there!

Don't like being ambushed by old people sadness in movies. It's only allowed if they die content after long, full lives painlessly in their sleep at home. PAINLESS. IN. THEIR. SLEEP. AT. HOME.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-12 02:53 am (UTC)(link)
So agreed with all of this. Especially the last half of your post.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-13 06:07 pm (UTC)(link)
The older my parents get, the more it upsets me to see old people being sad and lonely, old people being neglected or abused, or old people dying alone.
