(Anonymous) 2016-01-12 01:05 am (UTC)(link)Holy shit how was he the central point of season 2? At one point I thought we were going to get a play by play of Rin going to the bathroom the whole thing was so Samezuka-focused. If anything I felt like thematically they really lacked on the Iwatobi side, to the point that they denoted Rei and Nagisa's character arcs to "one episode plot wrapups".
So that's why I say it felt like a weird tack on. And you clearly have a personal stake in this, man. Gee whiz, just admit it.
And this is why I fucking hate arguing about this show, you assholes immemdiately point the "NUH UH UR CLEARLY A [insert opposite ship here] MOLE TRYING TO MAKE US LOOK BAD" card. No, if I got my way it would have literally been disgustingly Rin/Nitori focused. I don't give a shit about MakoHaru or RinHaru. Let Haru marry his freaking mackerel for all I care.
Nobody's denying that season 2 is canon, just that it feels like a tack on. Also, it's funny that you think you can speak to "what the VAST majority of fans want".
The entire series is an excuse to look at boys in swimsuits, and anybody trying to act like season one is somehow objectively better from a storytelling standpoint is ridiculous. Both seasons suffer from shitty writing because it's clear the entire focus was "TEASE THE FUJOSHI", and oh my god does it show.
Also, yeahno the "vast majority" is because I follow Japanese fandom trends. Do you wanna know what pairings dominate the doujinshi events? Do you want to know what pairings consistently shot up to number 1 in fandom magazine polls? Do you want to know which pairings won all the "year in review, most popular couple" polls? Like come on? What is with this fandom, why is this the one fandom where people take numbers and evidence and go "THAT'S NOT TRUE!"? Like I said, I don't give a shit about these two pairings, and the only reason I track Japanese fandom shit is so I don't miss events where I can send my Japanese shopping deputy off to snag my 1-5 rarepair doujinshis, but even from a non-shipper (non RinHaru/MakoHaru shipper at least) point of view, I thought it was pretty obvious who had captured the Japanese fandom's (and much of the Western fandom) wallets.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-12 02:27 am (UTC)(link)Really? Seriously I'm not even going to touch this disaster of a thread but come on, they mention something and then the other person immediately responds with 'lol you totally have a dog in this', which, if they don't ship either pairing, why the hell would they?

(Anonymous) 2016-01-12 03:20 am (UTC)(link)That's the one thing of the 2nd season I can't forgive
even though I loved Rei's episode as an Rin/Rei shipper. But still, I liked Free better when they were part of the main cast instead of being part of the background most of the time.
