I'm curious why you're asking? (Just curious, I swear, I have no dog in this fight! :O I didn't even really care for this series.) I have a feeling the OP would probably list a bunch of best friend pairings combined with like...I've seen this on Fandom!Secrets a lot, a "best friends pair" is basically "any pair of guys/girls/guyandgirls who get along with one another and aren't at each other's throats constantly", so I feel like whatever they ship would probably be a mixed bag like that. XD

Well because there is a lot of fandom where the rival ship is the most popular while the BFF is ignored, specially in anime. My favorite couples are the ones who start as rival, then work together and end as close friends or the ones where the best friends got separated for a while and both have individual grow up. Simple vainilla BFF is boring trough I do prefer MakoHaru over RinHaru, it has to have something more for me to appeal me.

Ahhh. Yeah, there are a lot of friendship pairings where I think shippers get the shaft because canon gives a really good basis. For me personally as another admitted best friend shipper, I think it's kind of a half'n'half type deal on that. There are fandoms where I totally feel my pairing gets the shaft (one of the disgruntled Tsukishima/Yamaguchi Haikyuu!! anons checking in, although that isn't the whole story because there are some pairings I love in that series that are pretty much the OTPs for fandom), and then there are fandoms where I feel the 'best friend' dynamic gets a lot of play and the rival pairings aren't as big.

Just out of curiousity, since you seem to be drawn to Rival pairings more but you mention you like MakoHaru more than RinHaru, why? Like what about their dynamic appeals to you over RinHaru? :)

Is mostly the fact that I hated Rin during Season 1 for being a drama queen. In fact, I was so butthurt about Rin hijacking Rei rightful place in the competition that I never watched S2. Also Makoto is my second favorite character after Rei and I find his friendship with Haru very cute because he respect Haru space, he is not the type of friend who is agressive with his encouragment like FEEL BETTER DAMNIT!
A couple I love is KageHina because they were supposed to be the typical rivals but ended in the same team and they work together so well. Also Kageyama is not the typical aloof rival like Sasuke, he is pretty dorky and didn´t have much trouble with team work when he entered Karasuno despict his previous problems in middle school.
A canon c0uple will be SakuraxSyaoran from CCS, Syaoran antagonized her at first, then they had to work together for a greater good, then they started to become friends slowly and then Syaoran started to fall for Sakura. Is even funny because they were love rival for Yukito at first.

Haha yeah, I know exactly what you mean. I was really irritated over Rin taking Rei's place. I felt like that was such a shitty writing decision. :/ Rei worked so hard and I feel like the writing just conveniently forgot that, and made everyone super OOC about it too. I can't picture Makoto, Nagisa and Haru just being like "yeah toes kick Rei off the relay!"

To be honest you hit on one of the major reasons I ship MakoHaru. Makoto's attitude regarding Haru is just super sweet, and it's obvious how much he cares and just wants to see Haru happy.

I adore KageHina, they're one of the few "rival" pairings I can say I enjoy, but I love them because they subvert the rival trope, and become good friends who just have bickering personalities. Kageyama in particular seems very willing to put his attitude on the backburner for the sake of a good team.

SyaoranxSakura, I always enjoyed the progression they gave those two. :) They're definitely another one on my list that I thoroughly enjoyed.
