I can relate. Although I haven't really looked, but I'm sure there's Star Wars forums and stuff. I wouldn't bother with tumblr and LJ. Especially not LJ, I think meta and theorizing is officially against their policy now. /Bitter sarcasm

I feel your pain.

Reddit?

I'm not really sure what this secret is saying. Or why it's a secret.

The Star Wars subreddit is surprisingly good. I've been visiting it since TFA trailer release and there's some cool discussion going on. The people are mostly pleasant too, which I didn't expect. (Not sure how much meta OP will find, but there's plenty of non-shippy stuff to see.)

TFA gave me my first ever Star Wars ship: Chewbacca/that doctor lady who called him brave. I finally just now looked up her name (Dr. Kalonia) and I'm gonna check to see if there's any fic as soon as I get home from work!

Omg, I would totally read fic of those two! That was an adorable scene. (And now that you mention it, at the time I definitely found myself going, “Chewie, this could go somewhere.")

update

Nothing on AO3 yet, although there are some stories that tag her as a character. She's not an option in the ff.net filters, although I haven't used that site in ages and don't know if I'm searching it properly.

Oh, well. That's how the rare-pare cookie crumbles! Maybe in time.

The SW universe is one of my favorites! I haven't explored it nearly as much as I'd like to, but I love how rich it is. This fandom is a good one for getting lost in theories if you know where to look. (Seconding the reddit suggestion. The SW subreddit is pretty awesome, and there's always some kind of discussion going on.)

So I can understand your desire for that kind of thing, but I want shipping too. I've always been a shipper. (I just so happen to ship the unpopular ship this time around, so I'm mostly reblogging gen art... There isn't much else.)

(Anonymous) 2016-01-14 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
I can relate to every word of this! I could have made this secret. But recently I've found interesting theories/discussions on reddit (which has already been said here), and I didn't even use reddit at all before this. Everywhere else I go all I see is ships, and that's great for those people, but the lore interests me far more and there's a lot of places on reddit where people are still talking about it. I wish I had another suggestion for you, but I hope you find a way to have a good time in the fandom!

I'm not even a huge fan of Star Wars or the SW universe, but after seeing TFA, I got annoyed at seeing all of the shipping stuff on Tumblr.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-14 02:18 am (UTC)(link)
I just want more cute droid stuff.

Considering they just killed off one half of their only canon couple...

(Anonymous) 2016-01-14 05:19 am (UTC)(link)
You can gleefully tell all those shippers that they have nothing to ship for anymore!

That's not how shipping works, spoiler anon.

My god, they killed Threepio? Those bastards!

I know how you feel.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-14 07:14 am (UTC)(link)
I can see why people are shipping, but how huge it's gotten in this fandom is ridiculous. I feel like the only one who doesn't see the huge deal with Finn/Poe since they barely had any screentime together compared to Finn/Rey.

I think I'll wait for the second installment to choose my ships, right now there doesn't seem like much to go for for any particular ship.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-14 03:25 pm (UTC)(link)
beyond wanting gay!Luke and gay!Poe I don't care about the romantic lives of any Star Wars character tbh, I agree the SW universe is far more interesting

This is how I feel, too. I'm just not interested in the fandom for this. I've been in it too long, I feel like there's so many strong opinions everywhere bowling me over, and I just wanna enjoy it.
