Sengoku Basara!Anon here. That's honestly one of the reasons I enjoy his portrayal in SB. Hojo Ujimasa is a grumpy, inept old guy who doesn't get shipped with Kotarou like...ever. And while Kotarou gets shipped with Sasuke pretty often simply because "ninja + ninja", one of the better ships for him is with Matsunaga Hisahide. The mute, heavily-hinted-at-being-a-demon ninja assassin and the cruel, sadistic, enigmatic "collector"? It's perfectly fucked up, if you're into that. A lot of the doujinshi artists who draw for them know how fucked up their relationship would be too, lol. Here's the cover of one of the doujinshis I own:

Honestly the more that I think about it, Sengoku Basara is pretty good for fucked up relationships. One of my OTPs from there is Otani Yoshitsugu/Mitsunari Ishida. Mitsunari is an insane death machine of a person, and Yoshitsugu is ravaged by disease and wishes for the whole world to suffer like he does--except for Mitsunari. That doesn't stop him from doing fucked up things behind Mitsunari's back though, and their entire relationship is just a screwed up ball of angsty, violent devotion and betrayal.

I'm rambling, ignore me if you want.

(Side note, Kotaro's design is hot in this series! Dayum.)

SB anon! Honestly, you and the others who also enjoy SB are probably going to talk me into watching the anime. I tried it once and couldn't get into it but if this is what I have to look forward to, I need to stick it out longer.

but lbr I'll spend the whole time comparing them against their Musou counterparts...

Haha, if you're into fucked up relationships you'll probably love Mitsunari and Otani then, even over Matsunaga and Kotarou (neither of these two get as much screentime as they should!). Otani is a delightfully screwed up, tragic, crazy character (which is such a departure from how the real man supposedly was!), and Mitsunari is quite the enigma. On one hand he cares pretty much only about revenge...but then on the other hand, he shows in his own really fucked up way that he cares (basically? He beats his own soldiers within an inch of their lives when he overhears them making fun of Otani's illness).

As for comparing the two...there's really no comparison. I haven't sat down and watched Musou yet but those who have watched both say that you can't even begin to draw parallels between the two. Do be prepared to have it play havoc on your shipping preferences though lol. If I recall correctly Katakura Kojuurou isn't in Musou, or if he is, his ties to Masamune are greatly reduced from what they are in SB/histrical context. Kojuurou/Masamune is basically the Basara OTP though. Yukimura gets paired off with Sasuke Sarutobi most of the time, Date Masamune sometimes. From some of the Musou doujinshi I've seen I know the pairings all look pretty different there.

Katakura was added in the latest round of Musou games. His 4-II story mode circles entirely around Masamune.

I found him oddly boring despite him fitting a lot of tropes that should've made me love him, though, go figure.

Just a random question--have you played Pokémon Conquest? Kotaro is quite impressive in there, and for a kids game he's still super sadistic.
