The song really moved me for some reason - well, some reason being I also left my quiet little hometown to go somewhere more glamorous. And I don't know, it seemed superficially about an ex-lover for sure, but it also felt like it was about the relationships she had back home in general, or the town itself, or how she herself used to be. I had a close friend or two who I think did kind of resent my leaving, and we drifted while I was gone and whenever I come home to visit, it feels really strained and a lot like this, too.
