I just really want a pretty Hux figure, damnit. There is almost zero merchandise featuring him - he's not even on any posters or in any of the calendars.
I really wish there were more figures with the same quality as Japanese action figures.

I hope you find a good one! (I've seen one, but it was pretty awful.)

The film hasn't been out too long, so maybe as time goes on you'll find a bigger selection of merchandise (even for the smaller characters).

Now that you mention it, I do too! There's always Hot Toys, but those are out of my price range. Some of the Japanese action figures look great but aren't nearly as expensive.

There only is one and.. yeah, no. If it was dirt cheap I might have thought about it, just for fun. But I'm not paying more than 15 € for something I generally find ugly.

I mean, even Phasma has a bigger merchandise presence and she had, what, three lines in the first movie? They even have a poster with Phasma, a group shot of Storm Troopers and Kylo Ren TWICE - why couldn't they have added Hux? :( So sad.
And since I'm a bit worried that General Hux will not survive the second movie (non-force sensitive military personnel on the bad guys side don't have such a high survival rate in Star Wars) I kinda doubt there will be any more of him...
But eh, wait and see, I guess.

Haahaha, yeah, I looked up the Hot Toys line for Star Wars figures. Damn, so cool. Damn, so expensive.

I just received a set of the Banpresto Haikyuu!! figures (Daichi and Asahi) - that whole line is so great and has pretty okay prices (except for the really sought after ones that have been out for a while. But the release price range is pretty alright). I'd love to have figures of that quality as well. But sadly, a lot of Star Wars figures are not produced for collectors and more as childrens' toys.

She's the new Boba Fett. Duh!

[personal profile] fishnchips 2016-01-17 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
That might actually be true, but I think we're going to see a lot more of her (sans helmet as well, probably) in the future movies as well.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-17 04:41 am (UTC)(link)
We have already been promised that she will have a larger role in the next film.

[personal profile] fishnchips 2016-01-17 10:21 am (UTC)(link)
I know, that's the point. Boba Fett was never that huge of a charater - he mostly had the coolness factor going for him. Phasma is going to be a much bigger role/fleshed out character, in all probability.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-17 02:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Phasma can be marketed as gender neutral, I guess. She has a female voice but the toys don't talk. Whereas Rey is obviously female
elaminator: (Star Wars: TFA - Rey & BB-8 (desert))

NGL, I was going to say the same thing as anon about Phasma. Boba Fett wasn't exactly a deep or particularly memorable character beyond appearance; I'd guess his cool design is largely what endeared him to people. (And yea, sold a lot of merchandise. I have a Boba Fett Mighty Mugg figure and it isn't because he's a fantastic character, it's for purely shallow reasons.)

So I do truly believe Disney was hoping Phasma would be a success. I've heard she has a bigger role in the next film, and I have no clue if that was originally part of the plan or something that came about more recently, but I imagine that will help with the popularity.

But, you're still right about Hux. Don't remember how many lines he had either, but it was certainly more than Phasma. I think, again, the big difference is Phasma has that shiny, badass armor, and Hux's costume is more subdued.

Maybe he'll surprise us all and survive!

Also, I googled those Haikyuu!! figures and now I want them all. They're all so well made and pretty! And the chibi ones are absolutely ADORABLE; seriously so cute it hurts. I want them.

IA that most the Star Wars figures I've seen haven't been as nice as I hoped. I find it so disappointing when toys are made ugly or cheap, because I love merchandise, but I don't want something that doesn't look half-decent and at least resemble the character.
fishnchips: (Yay)

[personal profile] fishnchips 2016-01-17 12:58 am (UTC)(link)
I think she wouldn't have been featured on the panels and in interviews if they didn't give her a bigger role in the future (I think she said so herself in a few interviews?) - which makes me extra-worried because Domnhall Gleeson wasn't at a lot of panels/interviews...

I could see Phasma getting a promotion/replacing Hux, actually, if he gets offed. Or she might desert - also an option.
I think they also went really OTT with their First Order/Nazi comparison (that whole speech Hux had on Starkiller Base was so cringey...) so I guess that's another reason why he's not a popular choice for merchandise - everyone else is less overtly space-Nazi-like, with their helmets/masks. Hux has the lines and the costume to make for a very close comparison (I think this was all way too heavy handed and a thing I genuinely didn't enjoy about the movie. It's been done to death and back).

Seriously, the Star Wars figures are so... ugh. The Lego figurine of Hux looks more like the character than the action figure...

Re:Haikyuu!! figures - I have Yamaguchi and Tsukishima of the bigger figures (they have a great size, too, not too huge but not tiny either) and the Yamaguchi and Tsukishima school way chibis and they are so damn adorable.
A friend has the whole Karasuno team sans Yamaguchi and Tsukki by now (Asahi and Daichi were a birthday present for her) - and it's so great seeing them all together because all the sizes fit together so nicely!

I'd love to have Yaku and Lev as well - I think they're not out yet, though. And as much as I love Kenma and Kuroo, their figures weren't quite as nice as the others and they are super expensive because they've been out for a long time and are quite rare by now (but I think they get a second edition). And Yachi and Kiyoko are so super adorable as well! /flails

I don't know if it's me but does the quality of children's toys seem, well shitter than many years ago?(I wanted to get some of the raptors from JW because RAPTOR SQUAD but I hated all the toys because they looked so cheap, but were like £20, lol no).

I mean even pulling out my old JP toys, while the paint-job is a bit iffy on some of them the actual plastic seems to be fairly decent rather than what seems like hollow crap they use now.
fishnchips: (Kenma: Ehhh)

[personal profile] fishnchips 2016-01-17 12:11 am (UTC)(link)
I think so, too. I had some amazing action figures back in the day, but most of the things they sell now is... so off, in many ways. Either it's the anatomy, the paint job or the general quality (or everything together).
But it's not just the action figures -dolls and plushies seem to get cheaper as well (I had some gorgeous Barbie dresses/clothes back in the day - I haven't seen anything comparable for a long time).
nightscale: Starbolt (DC: Batwoman)

[personal profile] nightscale 2016-01-17 12:34 am (UTC)(link)
Oh you've got a good point on the plushies. I've got an old Simba and Nala from the Disney store and the material on them is really nice and soft and the stuffing feels right, but the new ones seem so much crapper, in both look and feel.

It's also probably branding as well because my bf got me a plush wolf last year and it's fur/stuffing is really nice and it looks good too, but it's also not a big name company so that might be why.
fishnchips: (Yay)

[personal profile] fishnchips 2016-01-17 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
There are definitely some awesome (and expensive, yikes) plushy companies out there! I really love most of the animal plushies by a company named Kösen - they have so many adorable ones (and quite a few animals you don't see all that often in plushy form).

They have a snow leopard... omg. But yowsa, those prices(they are quite purty though).
fishnchips: (Box of Despair)

[personal profile] fishnchips 2016-01-17 01:48 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, the prices are nothing to scoff at, sadly. It's mainly why I don't actually have any of their plushies myself.

I'm a bit sore about the lack of Barbie clothes that come in a pack separate to a doll. The only things I can find a small slip dresses and accessory packs. I miss the outfit sets that I tried to buy a pile of in the late 90s, they were stylish, detailed, hardly cheap but they had at least three pieces besides shoes and stockings.

*Mourns* I just want a cool new outfit for Roz.
fishnchips: (Heh*drop*)

[personal profile] fishnchips 2016-01-17 10:18 am (UTC)(link)
Right? I remember a lot of really cool outfit sets from back in the day - they were pretty great quality, too. I haven't seen outfit sets around a lot (although I have to say I wasn't looking for them, but still) and the ones I saw were... eh.

It really depends, they are capable of much better tooling on a lot of toys these days, but plastic is more expensive (or was before the plumit of oil prices), so it's a huge trade off some are much worse, some are much better.

Ahaa, well that explains some of it then.

I'm just glad Lego remains impeccable in it's quality. It ain't cheap, but it's the best.

Yeah the Lego stuff often looks better than the larger toys, I got my dad some of the new Star Wars stuff for Christmas and it's really nice looking.
