That's normal. I was all over the place when my grandmother was dying. Before it happened I would constantly have fits of crying because I knew it was happening.

Then I was sorta numb when it happened. Like "oh".

Then a celebrity death happened (Robin Williams) and when I found out I just burst into tears about everything.

There's no one right way to grieve because everyone does it differently. There's nothing wrong with you if you don't cry about one thing and cry about another thing.
