I don't think it's wrong to find something offensive on behalf of someone else so long as you're not acting like a spokesperson for everyone and don't tell people who speak up to say it doesn't bother them to shut up or they're wrong.

The latter point is unfortunately what a lot of people fall into. As long as you can respect that your feelings on it aren't the only right ones (or those that line up with yours) you're not really doing anything wrong.
