Re: Just sharing this beauty of a webcomic with you guys

The grandmother calls her a traitor and disappointment then her friends inform the guy who wanted to date her that she's asexual because she was leading him on since every healthy relationship involves sexual activity and Real Life Teens(tm) totally talk seriously to each other like this. Then she cries in her room about being asexual and how nobody will accept her, then her sister gives her a hug and declares dramatically that I will accept you but you must first accept yourself~ and that's the end

I'm embarrassed as an asexual after reading that, no wonder everyone thinks we are trying to be victims when we're not.

Yeah that does read as really preachy, telling-not-showing. Am thinking the artist is kind of young? If talented.

I could maaaaaybe buy the friends, but the conversation with grandma struck me as most contrived simply because when you're at that age, most of the parental figures in your life are so desperate for you to not be having sex of any kind that an asexual identity might actually seem like a blessing to them.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that found the grandma pressuring the sixteen year old to find a boyfriend and have sex and pop out babies was totally creepy wtf.

I'm going to put this aside as teenagers being teenagers and having to dramatize everything about their lives and forget it exists

Oddly, I bought the grandma one much easier than the friends one. Friends tend not to fuck each other over so obviously and maliciously (They can be obvious and malicious but rarely both at the same time is what I mean) but grandparents can be absolute ass holes. They don't want kids fucking, but if they find out their idea of the future is in jeopardy, they will take every opportunity to set stuff right. And that line about adopted kids being less special that crotch-droppings, while heave handed and obvious, is not so heavy handed and obvious that I couldn't buy some grandparents being like that. my own grandma held similar views about my parents adopting me, but the swiping was much subtler than the comic suggested.
