I don't know this show, but the manhua "Song of the Long March" was my equivalent. For the first time, I found myself grinding my teeth at the possibility of het romance and realized then that my series OTP was a lesbian ship.

Of course the ship sunk almost immediately after my realization and it looks like the het couple is going to win out, but aaahhh it was wonderful while it lasted! <3

Hope some other people see the same hints in this show as you, OP!
