I liked her, but there is still a bit of potential upwards (we still have two movies worth of character development for her). I wouldn't call her a Mary-Sue either, but she had her moments (I'm not even talking about the lightsaber fight, but I was a bit annoyed that she basically knew more about the Millenium Falcon than Han and that was... a bit iffy, in my eyes.)

re: Rey's knowledge of the Millenium Falcon. My headcanon is that she's snuck onto that ship multiple times and explored it top to bottom. She spends her time scavenging crashed ships, and is obviously enthusiastic about them; an intact ship that no one flies for years would be a huge lure to explore.

Plus, she didn't really fly it that well when she first took off. During that whole fight scene, Rey wobbled around, skimmed the sand about 4-5 times and crashed/bumped into things. She has the knowledge of ships and the terrain, is a natural pilot and force-sensitive so she has a fast learning curve. Her skills were totally believable to me.

She did call it a pile of trash, though, that doesn't sound very fascinated/enthusiastic to me.
I have no issue with her flying - Luke was able to do some ace piloting with the help of the force as well, so no objection there. But the way she basically told Han how to repair his sacred Millenium Falcon/knew how to fix things that Han didn't know how to fix, that was a tiny bit too much (not that jarring for me, I still don't think she's a Mary-Sue).
