I think the place in that picture looks quite beautiful :). I could definitely see where a landscape like that could be very calming and soothing, and an ideal place to live.

Honestly I totally get this, I agree! And something about the people's relationships with pokemon, it's more than just a pet, but it's different from just another human...it's really special idk.

Another thing I really love about it is that this is a world where ten-year-olds leave home to go off on adventures, and they're completely safe. They're able to explore with their pokemon and everywhere they go, there are good people who want to help them and take care of them, and in return they can help others. Idk it's very idealistic but it makes me happy thinking about that kind of world.

Me too. I think that might've been what attracted me to it back when it was new and I was in no way a part of the target group.

You definitely picked a great picture for this secret :)
I guess Pokemon managed to ping this type of wish-fulfillment very well. It seems like an exciting world, that's mostly safe without being boring.
Otoh, I was never the biggest fan of Pokemon. I was crazy about it as a kid when it first came out, but I got over it.

That's a really sweet sentiment, and I completely understand. ♥

I feel you, OP. Imagining Pokemon SOL gets me through the day.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-19 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
Fuck, I'm nearly 27 and I still find it very soothing. Maybe it's nostalgia, or maybe it's the fact that it seems so amazing to have loads of magical animal friends and life seems so simple. I think I want to go watch Pokemon now, thanks OP.

Aw, I love this. A lot.

The Pokemon world really is beautiful.

I also have some really great art of it saved on my computer. (Like I have a lot of Pokemon fanart, true, but there are several pieces that really focus on the landscape.)

Would it be too much trouble uploading those pictures that you really like to imgur or something? I keep a lot of Pokemon fanart on my computer and would love to have more. I can do the same for you if you want.

Totally understand if you wouldn't be down though.

Aw man, I don't have as many as I thought I did. I do have a few. I have a lot of Pokemon fanart, but not as much landscape art as I thought I did. Anyway, sure! One's really dark, but the others aren't so much.

I'll put them on Photobucket. I'd love to see the ones you have too!

Seconding the request to upload that fanart as an imgur album, if you feel okay with doing it! I'd love to see that too.

I've always felt this way as well. Watching Pokemon always filled me with such warmth and just good feelings.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-19 02:31 am (UTC)(link)
I know exactly what you mean, OP. Even if I was a "side character" so to say, and didn't get to go on the cool adventures the main characters get to go on, there's just such a great sense of...symbiosis and connection with the land/wildlife that feels like a more powerful and stimulating version of the things that nourish my soul IRL.

IA (apart from random Team Rocket attacks and hoards of wild Beedrill...)

I love how they draw the forests in Pokemon. All those blues and greens, it's soothing. I spend half of each episode looking at the trees.

They do have a lot of research centers Pokemon for studying the balance of nature, but then they also keep Pokemon in tiny balls and make them fight each other, so it confuses me when I watch it. I do understand what you mean though.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-19 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
They don't "make" Pokemon fight each other tho, Pokemon enjoy fighting (like, they are demonstrably, repeatedly shown to enjoy fighting, it's not a telling without showing thing), they recover very fast, and have p much no hard feelings about the whole thing.

And most pokemon (Pikachu is an exception) like going in their pokeballs too. That's where they rest and it's mentioned as being more comfortable than sleeping on the ground. Plus pokeballs aren't prisons, because on many occasions pokemon pop out of their pokeballs on their own or even against their trainer's wishes (Team Rocket's wobuffet does it the most, but there's a whole lot of other examples too.) And quite often in the anime they choose to hop in the pokeball in the first place on their own, without being caught.

Basically, pokemon don't react to battles and pokeballs the way RL animals react to dogfights or cages, because it doesn't affect them the same way.
