Yup. I don't believe anyone who begs for money like that. If Tumblr is the only thing keeping you from being homeless, you need to get out and get a job. If you have a job, learn how to balance a budget.

The assumptions that (a) jobs are trivially gettable in all places (b) all jobs pay a satisfactory living wage and anyone not getting by with a job is fucking up their budgeting - I don't think either of those assumptions really holds satisfactorily.

Ah, but there's a bit more to it. Wages have not kept apace with inflation and the cost of living; part-time, temporary, contract, and per diem jobs have increased in number, while the number of traditional, permanent jobs has decreased; and job security and job stability have both gone down. Also, despite the ACA, the cost of health care is still high for the most vulnerable in our society, and many are still just one major health problem away from landing in poverty.

I don't tend to trust people who are asking for money on tumblr, myself, but staying out of poverty and homelessness is not simply a matter of getting a job and balancing a budget.

Get a job. Shit, that's a great idea. I bet it's never crossed their minds!

It's good advice but there are a lot of reasons why people may find it difficult. Their local economy, their family situation, age, mental health and/or physical health issues, etc etc

Yeah, same. I feel like so many people beg for money on Tumblr because it's easy.
