DA -- That was a weird example of a really good show that I kind of hated watching because it hit my second-hand embarrassment squick so hard and so often.

Heathers is the most realistic high school movie of all time and I won't let anyone tell me otherwise

Hahaha. You must have gone to a really interesting high school.

Gilmore Girls isn't terrible in that respect. There's *drama*, but not that much *melodrama*. But it's not a show primarily about Rory's HS and HS friends, it's more about her family and Stars Hollow people.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-20 03:42 am (UTC)(link)
That's because all the melodrama is in her family and in Stars Hollow.

Then again I'm biased because my mom watches it all the damn time and I can't stand it.

Silver Spoon

Azumanga Daioh

Both get a little unrealistic at points but are pretty down to earth.

Seconding Azumanga Daioh. It's fanciful, but it's one of the rare high-school-set things that really felt like high school to me.

Seconding Silver Spoon. You learn a lot from it too.

LBR here, high school is a pretty melodramatic time for most people because teenagers are melodramatic creatures.
