But those are love stories about the student/teacher. Usually anime doesn't do the sex+drugs+alcohol+depravity combo that I hate so much.

Ah! so drinking and smoking aren't bad on their own, and teacher student relationships aren't bad on their own, but it's when you combine teacher-student relationships with drinking and smoking that you have a problem?

Just saying that it's really weird to cite student/teacher relationships in Western media as a reason anime is superior
