Agreed. Although how you interpret said media may relate to stance on social issues. The number of people who romanticize Lolita or talk about it as if she actually seduced Humbert horrifies me and is absolutely an indicator of rape culture. But just enjoying the book is not.

I'm not familiar with that interpretation. How does that work?

I get so frustrated by a lot of discussions of Lolita because I love that book, but that's because I have a weird soft spot for people saying terrible things in a pretty way. So people trying to justify Humbert and act like he's not awful are really just arguing that I actually shouldn't like the book.

That sounds an awful lot like the desperate reaching of people who are overly fond of literary analysis.

I'd be fine with that kind of allegorical reading but I'm just not seeing the logic to this one.

I'm still not seeing the connection to Humbert and Delores's relationship in that at all (it seems to put all the power in the hands of the pre-/barely pubescent girl), but I'll have to look it up myself if I really want to understand.

I don't like when people shut out alternate interpretations of books either. I like hearing as many different interpretations as I can and turning them around in my brain for a while even if I don't agree with them.
