(Penny Dreadful: Caliban/John Clare)

(Anonymous) 2016-01-20 11:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh dear. "Used to"? Care to tell us more, OP?

(Anonymous) 2016-01-20 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, OP this secret is confusing as fuck for someone who has no idea what this series is about.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-20 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Not the OP, but Penny Dreadful is a sort of paranormal series set in Victorian times where there's vampires and werewolves, but also other characters from fiction such as Oscar Wilde's Dorian Gray. That character is Frankenstein's monster.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-21 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, he's Frankenstein's monster, but he loves poetry and aesthetically pleasing things. If he wasn't occasionally homicidal he'd just be the homely guy with tremendous inner beauty.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-21 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
NAYRT

I dunno about "homely". He looks more like "hot guy who spent an hour in a makeup chair to get some aesthetic scars" to me, at least in this pic? I don't know the series so I can't say if my initial impression is wrong or not. :P

(Anonymous) 2016-01-21 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
This is the actor, I believe?

I wouldn't say he was homely, though I guess the thinning hair might qualify him for "Hollywood ugly".

(Anonymous) 2016-01-21 03:56 am (UTC)(link)
Aaron Eckhart in I, Frankenstein was hotter.

Don't get me wrong. That shit film is unwatchable but Aaron shirtless and looking extra rugged? FUCK (ME) YEAH.

Really? He's also an entitled stalker who mopes about how pretty women don't loooooove him and forces his creator to make him a woman who he expects to be pretty and innocent and do everything he wants. Total Nice Guy. I absolutely see the comparison to Snape at his worst.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-21 02:34 am (UTC)(link)
Mary Shelley's probably rolling around in her grave when she heard how Tumblr was classifying her character

What does this have to do with Snape? Come on, anon, cite relevant passages from the books. I'm tired of this weird interpretation. Bloke was a miserable kid and a racist jerk, but Lily told him to fuck off and he fucked off. His obsession occurred after she died, because he felt massively guilty (for good reason) and griefstricken (which was to his credit).

(And then there was the Dumbledore factor. "He has her eyes, Severus, exactly her eyes, the same color and shape. Are you writhing with guilt yet? Here, sign your life away.")

He was not a fucking Tumblr Nice Guy. You can play with your headcanon all day long, but don't rewrite canon, ffs.

Jesus Christ, +1, thank you. Anti-stans mischaracterize him just as badly as Snapewives do, it's infuriating.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-22 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Well that's mainly why it's a secret. Brain says yech MRA and loins say YAY.

I imagined a world where exaggeration existed and I swear, I am not an astral wife to anyone I am just overcome with weird fixations and hormones.

Snapewives are pretty much the only thing I have left that I do look down on. (Well, Snapewives and those people who think countries can print as much money as they want and not have inflation.)

Unless you are the equivalent of a Snapewife in whatever this fandom is, I'm not sure why this needs to be a secret.

hey, Penny Dreadful secret!

Nice to know at least someone out there loves JC. I hope he's mellowed out with the angst (and murdering) and gets some more comfy scenes with Vanessa this season. Rory Kinnear is a fab actor.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-22 10:20 pm (UTC)(link)
I simply adore him and I know I shouldn't! I've also seen Black Mirror and just blocked it out. It's definitely an embarrassing secret, like, why brain? Why? I'm just so into his character as a fantasy.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-21 08:58 am (UTC)(link)
Black Mirror kinda ruined Rory Kinnear as an actor for me, because that's all I think of when I see him now unfortunately.
