[Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem]

I still have no idea who the hell this game is supposed to appeal to. SMT fans don't want it, pre-Awakening Fire Emblem fans don't want it. Hell, even Persona 4 and nuFE fans don't want it.

The loudest complaints I've seen are from Awakening fans whining that there's so much from Marth games. Everything I've seen looks like a train wreck.

I started the series with Awakening, and even I don't want this crossover.

I was initially very interested. A more lighthearted, irreverent take on both franchises would haved suited me. But then I saw the first trailer and I was utterly baffled.

Why did they have to put in all that creepy pandering stuff? Surely girls would be the main target audience for a silly, campy game like this? Wasn't there a huge uptick in women playing Fire Emblem because of Awakening? When I heard the concept, I assumed that's who they would be targeting.

Instead it's like they were trying to alienate absolutely everyone. The hardcore strategy fans are put off by the wacky designs and memes. Casual male players are put off by the overwhelming pink girliness. Female players are put off by the male gaze pandering. Some people are left, but not enough.

Such a pity because it's obvious that a lot of love was put into this game.

IIRC, the first trailer looked like it was a really weird concept that just might work. But by that second trailer that they showcased in a Nintendo Direct, it was clear that SMTxFE was a damn mess.

It's a shame.

I wouldn't worry. The game was so unpopular that I doubt it'll bring up many Snapewives type stans. At this rate it looks like it's going to be a The Other M level failure.

Considering just how they flopped utterly in the Japanese release, I really doubt it's going to attract a big fandom.

ngl, I have a bit of schadenfreude moment hearing about it.
