Or rape and feminism are really important to people and they want to have a space to talk about it. And since people get pissed about these discussions happening all over the place, perhaps we could let them have a general thread to talk about it where everyone else can ignore it if they don't want to see it? Perhaps that might be best for everyone? no, no, you're right, you don't want to see it so they're just trolls, lets dismiss them and troll / dismiss their attempts to keep things contained and as pleasant as possible for everyone. They should just shut up and go away because you think that only trolls are interested in these topics.

TLDR, you're being dismissive of what actual people want, Being on the other end of an internet doesn't make them not people worth just as much as you, no matter how easy you find it to dismiss them as trolls. And the people derailing that thread? They are trolls. Disruptive trolls at that, not just random shit-talkers.

They're clearly joking around, which is one of the foundations of this site, and I don't think it detracts from the idea of having a place to talk about gender

People have been doing this for race for a long, long time. Doing it for gender seems like a natural progression.

I question how this would actually work in any real life situation.

Like... how convincing is it? I would think in order to actually gain any benefit one's presentation would have to be pretty spot on (in the sense of traditional male and female roles), and I truly can't think of any situation where someone would be able to just flit back and forth between traditional male or female presentations without most people just labelling them a queer.

Which would therefore be pretty well ameliorating their benefits.

And like, practically how the hell does that work? Are we just supermanning it with a full change of clothes and a wig in a duffel bag plus a full makeup kit just in case that safe walk home or drinks at a bar require a different presentation?

mte, especially with the example given of being safer walking home alone. I'm a short/skinny twink and no amount of me being male would keep me 100% safe walking home alone, let alone someone who can supposedly pass for male or female at any time.
