Well... do you recall how a pelvic exam goes? If it's anything like the ones I get, it starts off with a breast exam, then into the pelvic exam. You'll be on the examining table with feet in stirrups and a paper gown and the doctor will be warming up the speculum. If you're scared that it'll hurt or you're worried, feel free to ask that they use a small one. After they take the PAP smear sample (which to me feels uncomfortable but not painful), it's usually followed by the pelvic exam where the doctor inserts a couple fingers into your vagina, then presses down gently on your lower stomach from the outside. Then it's over.

Take deep breaths, relax, promise yourself a nice treat afterwards for getting through it, and remember that gynos see dozens of vajayjays every single day in all shapes, sizes and colors. Good luck!

I'm not sure what they'll do? It is for issues rather than a routine exam. I've only been to a gynecologist twice. The first time the pap smear hurt but I managed to make it through. The second time it hurt so much and I was so freaked out they couldn't even get it in.

If it's been a while since you've gone, they may want to do a routine exam as well, just as a check up. You can call them and ask what's going to happen if you're worried. I know this is tricky, but the problem with freaking out is that you're going to tense up, which will makes things worse. Deep breaths and other relaxation techniques help, and try to imagine you're someplace else and this is no big deal.
