Re: Pet Peeves

This is an excellent pet peeve, because it's true. The Bennets may not have been super wealthy, but they had enough money and high enough of a social status that one would not expect the daughters of the house to have any firsthand cooking knowledge. They know how to interact with the cook and discuss menus, but you wouldn't find them up to their elbows in bread dough or anything.

As for the trailer... the book was funny for a chapter or two but it pretty much flopped after that. I don't expect much for the movie.

Yeah, while to Lady Catherine de Bourgh they weren't wealthy, compared to most people they were.

Actually it wouldn't be unreasonable for the Bennet girls to have firsthand cooking knowledge, especially considering their limited marriage prospects. But Mrs. Bennet thinks her girls too good for that and makes a point of letting Mr. Bingley know that unlike Charlotte Lucas--who has to decline an invitation to dine at Longbourn because she's "wanted about the mince pies"--her daughters are brought up differently.
