A brief snapshot of what a person was like as a teenager = grounds to condemn them forever and ever.

Sure, that makes sense. Except not.

I know nothing about Mitt Romney aside from him being a Republican and a presidential candidate in the last American election, but I'm guessing the problem with him is that he was a douchebag as a teenager and continued to be a douchebag into adulthood. James was a douchebag as a teenager, but he must have matured and stopped being a douchebag at some point, otherwise Lily wouldn't have married him.

Snape, on the other hand, was a douchebag right from the beginning (not to mention a creepily obsessive stalker), and never outgrew his douchebaggery.

Also: there's a big difference between a kid bullying another kid (which is what James was), and an adult in a position of authority over kids abusing that authority to make their lives hell (which is what Snape is). Both are bad and wrong, but one is a LOT worse. Being screwed up emotionally is not an excuse to abuse children.

http://www.slate.com/articles/news_and_politics/bulle/2012/05/romney_s_bullying_how_bad_was_the_vicious_incident_reported_by_the_washington_post_.html

As soon as I read this I was reminded of James. And y'know what if Osama bin Laden tried to kill his family I'm sure Mitt would put himself in their way but he's still a douchebag who forcibly cut a gay kid's hair and put his dog on the roof of his car.

Also how did Snape even stalk Lily? The two were best friends for most of their younger years. Snape only became a 'douchebag' due to years of bullying and abuse.

James continued to bully people. Quit fucking saying he grew out of it. He obviously didn't if he was still provoking Petunia and Vernon for kicks.

It seemed like he was mostly flustering Vernon who, by the way is a horrible bigoted person who endorsed bullying himself.

Vernon was more like Mitt Romney than anything ideals-wise and probably money wise considering he seemed pretty well off and successful.

And honestly Vernon is horrible and openly obnoxious enough that I don't think only a horrible bully would enjoy putting him off.

You're so in a rush to paint James as horrible that you're trying to victimise Vernon Dursley, a bully and a bigot himself.

Slow fucking clap.

Um, for kicks? Didn't Vernon patronize him and talk about wizards being unemployed? Whereas James did, what, in return?
