The fact that someone's letting an online RP influence their decision to buy a game rather than buying it themselves and forming their own opinions is silly.

Well, not really.

If you're heavily entrenched in fandom and part of enjoying the game is participating with a community, then it makes perfect sense to avoid the game if you don't like the community and save yourself a lot of grief.

The RP is the fandom juggernaut, and it's pretty naive to suggest that attitudes don't bleed out of it and into other places.

The fact of the matter is, "just don't read it" doesn't work and it's never going to work because if you're a part of any fandom or fandom sites at all, then it becomes unavoidable. Fandom Secrets is an example of that - regardless of your itentions, people can still post secrets that will just grate on you.

I don't think anyone can really deny that sometimes fandom will really piss you off/upset you and make you want to distance yourself for fear of looking like "another [whatever] fan."

Fandom juggernaut? The RP has only been there a month, and appeals to the fand who... um... RP?! I'd think that term is more accurately applied to the Kink Meme, no?

The RP is new and is in a separate comm from the other main PW comms, since when does anyone need to read it?

I think if you can call anything a PW fandom juggernaut, it's the kink meme, which people also don't need to read if they don't want to.

And yes, people can post secrets if they don't like it, but they shouldn't expect people not to voice their opposing views. Everyone doesn't need to agree with everything in any fandom.
