I agree, and this is one of the reasons I've been reluctant to join fandoms as of late. It's like walking on eggshells because you're afraid you're gonna end up offending someone, or worse, being seen as someone who is offensive. It also ends up making the fandom involved look bad, but that's not hard considering haters are ready to trashtalk the fandom they hate.

Not really sure why this is a secret since like 99.9% of the users here believe this as well.

But anyways yeah. You can discuss social issues and promblems regarding ships without bashing the shippers themselves. As someone who ships bruce/natasha and lapis/jasper, I've had my fair share of dealing with assholes lol.

I definitely don't think this is an unpopular opinion here, but I can still see why you made this secret considering how hostile and unpleasant pockets of fandom can be.

I'm not sure if fandom is worse then it used to be, or if it's just easier to find the people causing all the wank and drama because of how much more connected we are. And plus, lots more people are in fandom today then ever before, so there's simply more people to misbehave.

But, yea, you have a point and IA that while it's perfectly okay to dislike something, it isn't cool to attack people because they have a different opinion than you.

Agreed.

I know this kind of thing has always been there in fandom but it does feel like it's gotten worse, or maybe it's just louder? Either way disliking something is fine but attacking the fans of it is uncalled for.

Yeah, I agree. The past few years the fandom spaces I've been have been less and less civil; more and more I feel myself moving toward just crouching in a shadowed corner and tossing fanworks over the wall now and and again.

Yeah, I'm all up to discussing social issues, but I also think that's ok to enjoy fiction without analyzing every little thing. Because, at the end of the day, fiction doesn't equal reality and that depiction doesn't mean endorsement.

That being said, at this point I'm exhausted of all the moral outrage so now I use the block function a lot and ignore all those that can't take a break from their social war in fandom.
I'm enjoying fandom again thanks to that.

This is why I'm not on Tumblr.
