Years ago I read a fic that had this in it and I was weirdly into it. But that was probably because the writer was an excellent one and managed to make it adorable, sexy and hilarious all at the same time.

I feel like an elitist, but I'm kinda desperate for actual well - written fic, not just recs that say they're betaed but either obviously weren't, or the beta didn't have a good grasp of writing or very high standards. Why am I looking for book calibre writing in smutty fanfic?

There's nothing wrong with having standards, anon! I too crave well written smut. I've been spoiled with some really good fic, but I am not above reading anything below my standard. Look far and wide, and if you find, please link!

Sounds like a good read!

I've seen several fics with kinks I don't remotely share (e.g. gunplay, bloodplay) that were written so well, I got a clear sense of why the writer found that kink exciting.

(This is why I do sometimes click through to not-my-kink fics. Every once in a while, I'm pleasantly surprised ;-)

Rec please?

It was an Escaflowne fic by Sarah-neko/La Deese with a lot of different m/m pairings; this one in particular was Folken/Chesta. She had taken down all her smutty slash fic last time I checked, but I imagine she would be willing to send you a copy if you tracked her down.
