Sure most of the YA I've read's been pretty mediocre, but I don't know, most of the litfic I've read has been mid-life crisis-related, navel-gazing dreck.

Haven't really delved much into YA stuff myself, so can't comment on that, but you're not wrong about the litfic stuff. I remember when I worked at a bookstore a lot of the adult fiction books coming out sounded very samey in their plots, and were basically the definition of the phrase "first world problems" :p.

If that sort of stuff appeals to some readers, of course, more power to 'em (same with the YA fans). But yeah, the lack of real variety in fictional stories being told was kinda...eh. Been reading a lot of non-fiction lately, found some interesting stuff on that end.
