(Not that you do this, I was just reminded)
I know that you can put hyperlinks in for AO3 (at least, I think you can?) But IDK if I'd recommend it myself. I can't speak for everyone, but it throws me out of the story. :/
8tracks playlists can also be used, though, and I'd think it fun if an author had made such a mix for the reader to listen to. :o

The only time I think it makes sense for a link to be in the preface rather than the afternotes is when the fanwork is written about a particular work (e.g., painting or sculpture or song) that you'd want the reader to look at or listen to before reading.

Yeah, I can see that. I don't mind either way, mood music can be fun, but sometimes it's fun to read it first, then get to the "btw, bonus!" and reread the chapter with the new knowledge.
