Re: Let's talk about MASS EFFECT!!!!!

I'm a ME newb (played all three for the first time last year), and right around the time I finished up the trilogy, rumors started circulating about a fourth ME. In my obsessive fangirl state, I climbed aboard the hypetrain and never really got off. I know it's stupid that they don't want to choose a canon ending, so they have to move to different galaxy and blah blah blah but the series sweeped me off my feet. I'm just hoping that Andromeda manages to capture the same sense of awe and wonder that ME1 did. I loved all three games, but I felt like ME1 was the only one that instilled a sense of amazement into players.

God, the gameplay could be SO BAD. The worst part of it for me was getting used to all the clunkiness of ME1, but instead of trying to refine it for ME2, they just kinda... scrapped everything. ME2 is my least favorite in terms of gameplay because of how jarring the change was for me personally.

Also, yes, Vanguards are so much fun! Unfortunately, I'm really bad at handling playstyles that are aggressive and in-your-face, so I ended up dying A LOT as a Vanguard. I loved being a Sentinel, though. Especially when you take Kaiden along.

As far as I'm concerned, Shepard survived and retired somewhere tropical with Garrus. I don't know how it happened, but it did.

Best interrupt IN THE ENTIRE SERIES.
I almost always end up being a boring goody-two-shoes paragon, but this is like one of two renegade actions I just HAVE to do (the other one being telling The Illusive Man that you can't hear him because your connection is getting a lot of bullshit.)

The shift in controls from ME1 and ME2 reminded me a lot of going from System Shock 1 to System Shock 2. SS1 came out in '94 before WASD became standardized and the controls were a mess (this was before someone modded in proper mouselook.) SS2 came out in '99 and was much more customizable and intuitive in terms of controls.

I still prefer SS1 tho ;)

Me too. I find ME2 and ME3 to be quite magical as well, but of course with ME that's the first glimpse we got into the ME universe, so there's going to be something special and fresh about it. Some of that stuff becomes commonplace after, though it stays cool.

but instead of trying to refine it for ME2, they just kinda... scrapped everything

See, I liked that! I know it was a major adjustment, but I really didn't like the combat in ME1. 'Starting over' like everything was brand new took getting used to, but with most games there are tweaks, sometimes major, and once I got the new controls down I was all for it. I'm sorry it didn't work for you, though. At least the jump between ME2 and ME3 wasn't massive.

Sentinels are good, too! I am very much the 'in your face' type but it's nice doing something different when you switch playthroughs.

Welp, at least one of my Shep's LI's died so some of my endings would be sad no matter what, lol.

Yes! Even on my 'completely paragon' run I just had to take that Kai interrupt. As far as I'm concerned that thing is so justified it shouldn't even be renegade. (And all the bits where you cut comms are amazing. This series is so hilarious, especially as a jackass renegade character.)
