Captain Nemo but less shit

(Anonymous) 2016-01-24 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
Hi,

So maybe too late to get many recs, but I thought I'd try. I can always come back tomorrow.

I'm looking for something kinda odd... but specific.

So I started reading 20,000 leagues under the sea because I have a super submarine high tech decadence thing going on at the moment and it's the go-to for that. But it's so fucking boring. I know hard scifi has these issues, but gah, so very technical and so un-fantasy adventure-y.

So I'm now looking for something in an under water awesome, less dry (no pun intended) better characters, more fun. Maybe someone with two X chromosomes to make change? Nemo seems fun, but I think I'm not supposed to like him, or I'm going to find out he's a bigger dick than he seems.

I did like the Alan Moore comic, if that helps?

I also liked the movie of the alan moore comic.

I want to say that a good bit of the original KW Jeter / James Blaylock steampunk stuff feels pretty under-water-y, but at the same time I can't think of a specific example other than Blaylock's "Zeuglodon" (which is decent).

How far in are you? Because the dry scienc-y stuff is really only the first couple chapters of worldbuilding that sets up the sub, then it gets onto more interesting things
