Driving in the Mako with nothing but the sound of the wind and the wheels creeped me out, so I started playing pop music in the background.
Britney Spears makes the Mako ten times more enjoyable.

(I also like to pretend that Shepard is playing the music in the Mako.)

A lot of people don't like driving the Mako. I loved it. Yes, it was totally creepy, but I think that was the point -- you're on an uninhabited alien planet half a galaxy away from home. (So I don't blame you for putting on a little music!) But it was also just fun to drive -- like a skateboard with balloons for wheels. I had endless fun watching the physics engine flip out on me on rough terrain.

so I started playing pop music in the background

I do this with select games. (Not just pop, but still.) If a game already has amazing music then I'm not going to bother, but anytime there's a long period of almost silence and all you have to listen to is sound effects (given we're not talking about an action packed story scene, where that's the point), I'll put on some music to keep myself entertained. Did this with Mass Effect 1 too.

The 360 makes this super easy, since you can play music right from your hard-drive. (Listened to Panic! At The Disco the other day while hunting in Tomb Raider!)

Oh, and driving The Mako had its moments...but there were also some long, frustrating sections where I felt like getting to a certain point was impossible and I wasted so much damn time maneuvering that vehicle. A part of me was disappointed when BioWare did away with it completely instead of tweaking the controls, but maybe it was for the best.

My first thought was "I don't remember the Mako sections not having music" but then I realized that's because I did basically the same thing as you when I played...

This is a cute secret, OP.

So your Shepard is like that one character in The Martian, except with a different era?
