There’s a popular incest ship in every fandom I’ve joined lately, involving my favorite character of said fandom. So far, I’ve stayed out of it; «it’s not my thing», but I swear, I get closer and closer to starting to ship them all for each one I see. It’s a goddamn conspiracy.

(I ship Dave with everyone)
(Still consider it incest)
(This one is arguable, I know)

I straight-up avoided the fandom for Big Hero 6 because the incest ship was such a juggernaut. I could live with it in Frozen fandom because whatever, they're European royalty, but BH6 incest just got to be too much for me, and it was freaking everywhere.

Swedish OP here - I laughed @ they're European royalty. True that!

Frozen makes most sense to me because of how isolated they were. We aren't shown any servants or anything like that, compared to Beast's castle with the various collection of servants turned into cutlery, teapots and teacups, timepieces, etc. Most Disney royalty have shown some nods to servants, although not universal. I don't think Ariel had servants shown (that I recall), but she had several sisters. All Elsa and Anna have is each other.

So yeah, I can see the incest ships sparking off that one, especially when the most important relationship in the movie is shown to be not Kristoff/Anna, but Elsa/Anna.

You'll get there one day, OP.

I'm sure I will, too. That's what I fear ლ(́≧Д≦‵ლ)

I'm only interested in the first pairing (though I love this art for Frozen, and the third fandom too) and don't much care for the fic, but I still ship Thor/Loki pretty hard. I don't know what it is with me and incest ships, but I like quite a few sibling ones. (...And a couple parental ones, those of which I feel a lot weirder about.)

It isn't for everyone and I can respect that, but I've seen lots of people in fandom go, "I don't ship incest" then one day come across a pairing that they make an exception for.

And hanging out in fandom long enough has a habit of normalizing things you wouldn't expect.

The third one is Homestuck, and the art doesn't even look that shippy to me. Dave/Rose is one of my favorite sibling relationships to the point where even that art just looks like them dancing together in a not-shippy way. o_O (I agree, it is really good art. I like all the art in this secret actually)

They're about to kiss though, right? That's why it looks shippy to me. The way they're holding each other and in each others space looks very intimate. It isn't explicit, but it still gets the point across.

And it's absolutely gorgeous! Some of the best art I've seen recently. (The character design for the girl is really beautiful in general.)

Yeah, but - I should have been more clear - it's specifically because the relationship is so not-shippy to me that I didn't see the art in a shippy way, not because I don't think the artist intended for it to be shippy. I didn't even think about them kissing honestly.

It's my lens on the relationship informing how I see the art.

it's specifically because the relationship is so not-shippy to me

Ah, okay. That flew right over my head! (As things often do.)

It's my lens on the relationship informing how I see the art.

We all have those moments.

OP: I have to admit, my criteria was "fanart with one-color background" rather than being shippy... But I think that one looks pretty romantic? I don't wrap my sister in like that, and I definitely wouldn't put my face that close to hers.

I love their interactions too! The Striders/Lalondes are nearly my favorite characters #1-#4 in Homestuck.

I do think it was intended to be romantic, I'm just saying that my own view on their relationship colored how I saw the art at first. I wouldn't have immediately though of it as shippy without context.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-28 08:50 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I know! I've seen several secrets here too, that's like "oh damn this won me over", and I'm already over secretly judging other incest shippers... The snowball is rolling.

It's weird, I'm Swedish and was pretty into the mythology as a kid, we had comics and stuff that retold the actual myths, not the Marvel versions, and I used to ship Thor and Loki (or Tor and Loke as they're named here) in their "real" form... But not as much as I shipped the "canon" pair of Oden/Loke.
elaminator: (Avengers: AOU - Thor (smile))

[personal profile] elaminator 2016-01-28 03:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Ooo, that's interesting. How are Odin/Loki canon? (Oden/Loke?)

I'm not too familiar with Odin outside MCU's Odin and I don't ship Odin/Loki in that verse, but maybe had I known your version I would've been into it as well.

Give in OP.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-28 04:45 am (UTC)(link)
No, don't.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-28 04:35 am (UTC)(link)
Elsanna creeps me out.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-28 05:09 am (UTC)(link)
Why? And why single out that pairing?

(Anonymous) 2016-01-28 09:06 am (UTC)(link)
Secret OP here, but not the same anon as wrote above. For me it's like, the more like siblings they act, and the more the story focuses on them being siblings, the squeakier it is. So Elsanna is the worst for me too, with an extra bonus 'cause they're sisters, and I'm female with a sister, so there's more identification there.

Loki/Thor, despite not being genetically related, and Tomoko/Tomoki (bottom-middle) are up there as the "worse" ships too, while Kylo/Rey and Dave/Rose are like... It's alright?

Ehh, sometimes that is what draws me in, depends on the pair being incest-shipped, because some things bore me no matter what.
