I forgot how cool that spaceship is.

(Also, is fandom really hung up on gender when shipping robots? Especially since Auto, iirc, isn't strongly gender-coded? Or is it the threesome thing?)

Sorta goes into the whole 'wanted this to have a different sort of fandom'; a lot of the fans back then had pretty strong Christian leanings, and thus Eve/Wall-E was the only thing they shipped. Gets boring after a while, you know?

Re: OP

Well honestly I would say the bigger factor was that Eve and Wall-E was basically the only pair that interacted on a close level.

Right, this was a fandom that had a very thinly veiled anti-abortion allegory in a fic, try again.

Not everyone was Christian, although even Howington was a conservative. I found the guy's attitude a tad too dominating and sort of vaguely condescending, though. I dunno, might totally have been just me having a random issue with it, clashing personalities and all that. But still, the time he had to take a hiatus when he got into legal trouble with his porn channel felt like the most relaxing time period in that fandom for me...

Either wrong fandom, or are you talking about that Level_Head guy?

The one who denied climate change a lot, and had this perhaps sorta entitled idea that Disney should publish his fanfic as an official continuation to the movie.

Edit: ran into his current politics blog, and now I rather think that the uneasy feeling I had about the dude was a bit more justified than I initially thought.
Quote "I do not have a religious objection against homosexuals marrying each other, per se. But they are acting as just one more phalanx in the army of leftists attacking the social fabric of America with the goal of making the country weak, impotent, and no longer prosperous, and they think they are backed by a perverse notion of “social justice” as they work to bring about the misery of hundreds of millions of people." Etc etc etc...

Was kinda tiresome to have this dude as a BNF. Not that I'm super into the rabid types of SJW either, but at least they generally have the excuse of being young enough to be immature.

Wow, you WERE talking about that guy . . . ugh, I never liked him much either, he always felt so damn condescending. And UGH, that godawful fic. Entirely too depressing, and how could you miss the point of the ending credits sequence so thoroughly? So many awesome fics got passed over because half the idiots at wall-e forum were all 'Colony Crisis is the bestest fic evar!!!1!' Uh, dudes, this movie is not hard scifi by a long shot.

Have I mentioned I am still very happy that forum went poof?

I really do love that movie.

But I never got into the fandom - what was wrong with it?

This is my favorite Pixar movie, and my favorite movie period.

I do remember finding the fandom kind of weird, which I think came down mostly to how many people made Wall-e/Eve babies, which I thought was wtf.

Eh I'm pretty diehard WALL-E/Eve and wouldn't like any deviations (the movie is a love story after all), but there's no reason it has to be het. Eve is coded pretty female, but WALL-E could easily be whatever. I'd be down as heck for WALL-E/Eve femslash.

I think I'm kind of a multi-shipper, really. Wall-E/Eve, I ship that in whatever form it can take, but maybe in some scenarios Auto could find his way into things too.

And yeah, the sheer number of child bots was kind of ridiculous, and then there were all the humanized bots (to the point where that kind of fanart dominated things).

No. This Movie is pure cheesy nostalgia crap. Not original, not funny, not thought provoking, not anything. Oh look it's an imac dating a chibe N°5! that's the For Kids but really for adults-SF equivalent of pictures of kittens for cheap emotional response.
literally a pile of junk.
god I hated that movie.
