Yeah, normal prisons do that to people. Now imagine spending years in a prison full of soul devouring monsters, meant to drive the incarnated insane.

Still doesn't excuse his behavior. If we can't pass out free passes to some characters then no one gets one.

Sirius doesn't get a pass for his comparison of Harry to James, but if that and one "Snivellus" is the worst he does after 12 years surrounded by said soul-sucking monsters and one more year locked up in his hated ancestral home, he's still on the okay side of the litmus test.

So bullying a child is OK if the precious puppy does it?

(Anonymous) 2016-01-28 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
Everybody agrees that all the bullying the characters did as a teenager was wrong. We're talking now about what they did as adults

And Sirius had no problem bullying Harry when he didn't do what he wanted by telling him that his Dad would have. That was a shitty thing to say to a child who doesn't remember his parents and longs for that parental love. If Sirius would have lived he would have screwed up Harry until he because a bully just like him.

You're basing this on that one comment, when Sirius broke out of jail to protect Harry, had the chance to escape for good and still came back because Harry said his scar hurt, spent all of GoF telling Harry not to take unnecessary risks or go anywhere alone and be careful and basically being the helicopter parent that even Harry got sick of?

And "you're less like your father than I thought" is bullying now? You damn well better not be one of the other nonnies in this thread saying that what Snape did to his students wasn't bullying....

That isn't *bullying.* People have to stop using that word. Bullying is sustained bad treatment of someone over whom you have power. Sirius was a dick in that moment, sure, but he wasn't a bully to Harry.

Jesus, I am so sick of that word.
