Question

(Anonymous) 2016-01-28 01:10 am (UTC)(link)
Does anyone else wait until movies come out on blu-ray or netflix rather than see them in the theater?

Re: Question

(Anonymous) 2016-01-28 01:14 am (UTC)(link)
The nearest theatre is 40 minutes away and I neither drive nor own a car. I wait for everything to come out closer to home.

Re: Question

(Anonymous) 2016-01-28 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
Would you go see more movies if it was logistically easier?

Re: Question

(Anonymous) 2016-01-28 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
Possibly. There are a couple of things I wouldn't have minded seeing, and I actually made it to one or two things over the last few years. The cinema was always either logistically or financially difficult around here, though, ever since I was a kid, so I think I just never got into the habit either. I've enjoyed the experience when I've gone, but it isn't really something I'd go out of my way to do regularly, I think.

I usually just wait until they come to one of our movie channels, like HBO or something. The only time I tend to go out to a movie theater nowadays is if someone else wants to go see a movie and invites me along.

Yeah if I don't think I will like them all that much or if I am not super interested in them. Is that odd?

Or do you mean for movies I really want to see? If so, no I will see them in a theater.

Re: Question

(Anonymous) 2016-01-28 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
I do mean for movies you want to see. For me, theaters are physically painful (hearing-wise) so I always wait and I get the sense that this is unusual.

I'm a wait to netflix person on just about everything Marvel.

Only for films I'm not sure I wanted to see, if I want to see it I'll go to the cinema because I enjoy the experience of it the first time.

Oftentimes yes, but not because I don't like the theater experience (I very much like the sense of excitement, and sharing a film with others even if you don't know them), simply because I rarely get myself to the theater while the movie is still around.

Re: Question

Nope. I love the movie theater experience. I've been known to go see a movie I wasn't interested in just because I'd had a stressful week. I find the theater relaxing.

Re: Question

(Anonymous) 2016-01-28 02:15 am (UTC)(link)
I do. These days they crank the volume in theaters up so high that it's actually physically painful for me to go see movies, even with earplugs.

Re: Question

(Anonymous) 2016-01-28 02:20 am (UTC)(link)
That's me too. I use ear plugs and noise-canceling headphones but things like explosions are still enough to give me headaches.

Most movies if I watch them at all, I wait. Theaters are so expensive.

I watched SW:TFA on opening weekend but it's probably the first movie I saw in theaters for at least a year prior. I can't even remember.

Re: Question

(Anonymous) 2016-01-28 03:31 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah. Mostly because as ridiculous and paranoid as it sounds, I'm kind of afraid of there being a shooting at the theater. (Even though there could just as easily be one at the grocery store or the bank or a restaurant or any other public place I go on a regular basis...I never said this fear was logical.)

For me it's mostly that theatres are expensive. I live in the LA area, so during awards season, I could see a lot of the smaller films before they are in wide-release (or never are given wide-release). That's cool, but it's prohibitively expensive. So I see a few major movies and a few indies every year, and then everything else on dvd/netflix.

Re: Question

(Anonymous) 2016-01-28 04:28 am (UTC)(link)
All the time. I rarely like the movies I see and refuse to shell out over $2 for a movie I don't know if I'll like. There have been a few titles I wish I'd watched in theater but not many. I'd watch a movie in theater if it had Jang Hyuk in it (yesssssssss).

Re: Question

It definitely depends on the movie. Some movies really do look great on a big screen, with others, it's pretty irrelevant if you watch it on a big or small screen - so those are the ones I don't want to spend a lot of money on (cinema is so expensive...). I rarely go to the cinema in general, though, most movies don't interest me enough and I very much prefer to watch movies with their original sound and most movies only run in dubbed format at cinemas here. And that sucks.

A lot of the time, yes. Because I don't see the point of going to the cinema unless I am really eager to see the movie.
