My last cat passed from the same thing. It's not a fun way to go. In the end I chose to let her go as peacefully as possible, on my bed in the spot where she loved to sleep.

My advice is to say your goodbyes and then call someone in to your home to help her pass. It's so much kinder than a drawn out length of suffering.

Agreed, particularly to "call someone in to your home to help her pass." When one of our dogs was dying, we called the vet to come to the house, because we wanted the other dog to know that she was gone, and not always be looking for her. That was the primary reason to have it done at home, but also because it's where my pets are most comfortable. Dragging them off to the vet, where they're anxious, just isn't a nice way to end things.

When our other dog died a year later, we still had the vet do the house call, because it's so much easier on the pet and us.

A lot of my friends were surprised to hear you could get a house call for putting down your pet, but if you can afford it, I do recommend it.

Thirding. The dog I grew up with died at home and we made the decision. We actually scheduled it a few days in advance based on how her condition was. We fed her all kinds of fast food shit that weekend, then the vet came on Monday. She (the dog) haaaaaated the car, it made her anxious and upset, and we didn't want her to die that way.

I was the one who first suggested the house call, and at the time I wasn't sure, but I'm not surprised the vet did it, and it seemed like something she was used to doing.
